Parent Volunteers
Summer Swim is a FAMILY sport! Each family is required to fulfill volunteer hours during team social events and meets. Our meets and social events depend on your participation! Parent volunteers make the summer swim season possible; they are the backbone of our neighborhood team! The Wahoos swim team is only possible with help from parents – coaches are the only paid staff for the many team jobs.
To support the swimmers competing in the meet, every meet requires timers, deck marshals, a clerk of course, starters, stroke & turn judges, relay take-off judges, table workers, and announcers. Home meets also require snack bar workers and other volunteers. It takes over 40 volunteers to time, officiate, & score one swim meet, nevermind the many volunteer hours spent creating the social events that help make this activity beloved – over 450 different volunteer activities over the course of one summer season!
Wahoos Volunteer Requirements are agreed to as part of the registration process.
Families with 1 swimmer (age 6-18) must complete a minimum of 10 hours (5 at meets).
Families with 2+ swimmers (age 6-18) must complete a minimum of 20 hours (8 at meets).
Families with 4-5 year old Minnows AND 1 older swimmer must complete 15 hours (5 at meets).
Families with ONLY Minnows must complete 5 hours.
Families with swimmers in the relay carnivals (division or all star), division individual championship, or individual all stars are expected to volunteer additional hours for those meets, based on the requests of the hosting pool.
Families who did not complete their required volunteer hours in 2025 were charged a Volunteer Fee of $250. This fee must be paid prior to registering for Winter Wahoos 2025-2026 or Swim Team in Summer 2026.
The fee for not meeting the minimum volunteer hour requirement is not an opt-out fee: the goal is for all families to volunteer.
All volunteers on the pool deck during a swim meet (including Time Trials) must follow the NVSL dress code:
- Top: a plain (no team insignia, no logos, no print) white shirt
- Bottom: navy blue shorts, skorts, pants, or skirt (not denim or other blue shade)
