NVSL Divisional Relay Carnival & All-Star Relays
Divisional Relay Carnival and All-Star Relays are on 2 Wednesdays during the season. These are competitive, scored meets. There are a fixed number of heats and limited entries for these competitive meets. Dates for these meets (and other meets and activities) can be found on the Swim Meets page.
The Divisional Relay Carnival allows Wahoos relay teams to compete against other relay teams within our NVSL Division. The Divisional Relay Carnival is usually held on a Wednesday in the middle of the swim season.
Swimmers participate in medley relays (back, breast, butterfly, free) and freestyle relays. There also is a Mixed Age Relay, composed of the fastest freestyle swimmer in each age group (9/10, 11/12, 13/14, 15-18). The four fastest swimmers (based on the ladder / best times during the current season) are selected by coaches for each relay event.
Coaches select swimmers for all events and will select the roster to set the team up for the best possible outcome for the season. To this end, coaches may mix up rosters at any meet to gain the greatest competitive advantage for the team. The Team Reps are available to answer any questions about a Relay Meet roster.
Based on the Wahoos performance at Divisional Relay Carnival, relay teams that are among the top 18 times (across the entire NVSL) move on to compete in the All-Star Relays. All-Star Relays allows qualifying Wahoos relay teams to compete against top-performing relay teams from the NVSL.
All-Star Relays are usually held the next Wednesday after Divisional Relays. If a relay qualifies for All-Star Relays, the same four swimmers will participate, except in case of illness.
Just like Saturday NVSL Dual Meets, swimmers who are selected to swim in Divisional Relay Carnival or All-Star Relays are required to confirm their availability with a Team Rep as soon as they have received the selection e-mail. Coaches and Team Reps need to know if your swimmer will be absent as soon as possible, preferably early in the season. Please notify the Team Reps as soon as possible if anticipated absences arise during the summer. If a swimmer cannot attend a relay meet where he/she is slated to swim due to sudden illness, please contact one of the Team Reps immediately.
Families with swimmers in the relay carnivals (division or all star), division individual championship, or individual all stars are expected to volunteer additional hours for those meets, based on the requests of the hosting pool.
